Located on the historic military aircraft carrier, Midway, the USS Midway Museum houses a collection of aircraft. Museum of Photographic Arts

The Museum of Photographic Arts contains collections that highlight some of photography and film's greatest accomplishments. A few museums dedicated to photography are located in Balboa Park. Margaret Bourke-White and Ruth Bernhard are among the greats whose photographs and films are on display at the museum. The museum features a strong concentration of 20th-century Soviet Russian photography, photojournalism, and documentation. Mingei International Museum

It is a museum devoted to crafts, design, and folk art, as well as their influence on culture. The Mingei International Museum occupies a space within the House of Charm in Balboa Park, called "Art of the People" in Japanese. San Diego Model Railroad Museum

In order to preserve railroading's history, the San Diego Model Railroad Museum builds scale model trains. In Balboa Park's Casa de Balboa Building, the museum is one of the largest of its kind. It boasts some of the largest HO and N scale layouts in the country as well as a Lionel type 3-rail O gauge toy train gallery. Among the other highlights are a two-level layout of the Southern Pacific / Santa Fe railroad of the 1950s and a special library for model railroading.

Explore marine life
There are massive tanks for marine life, tide pools, and oceanography at Scripps' Birch Aquarium. At the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, the aquarium serves both as a public outreach program and as a marine research facility. The aquarium covers over 64000 square feet with 60 tanks full of fish and invertebrates from California, the Indo-Pacific, and Mexico. A tide pool features hermit crabs and starfish, a sand-bottomed tank with sharks and rays, and an exhibit dedicated to seahorse biology which includes a seahorse nursery.

Music's impact on society is exhibited in the Museum of Making Music. The Carlsbad museum has three sections on making instruments, dispensing instruments, and making music. In addition to audio samples of popular songs, vintage instruments and memorabilia, and an interactive instrument area, the museum includes audio samples of popular songs.
